After the plus 70's weather we had last week and a half reality has finally come home. Lots of road salt spread yesterday morning and temps back into the low 40s. The bikes all got a dose of Stabil, hooked to tenders and covered up. The wifes convertible goes into storage tomorrow. Riding season 2020 is officially over in Washington NH. Time to focus on garage stuff now.

Luckily, down here among the mint juleps and magnolia blossoms, we get a few rideable days every month, although we do have some miserable winter weather sometimes.

I'll be taking the currently topless car into the shop for a new convertible top tomorrow, and will only need my normal bike gear (jacket, gloves, etc) to stay warm. Days that get into the 50s aren't too uncommon, so there's no complete "shut down" for the winter ....

Is that days that get up into the 50s (F, I assume), or down into the 50s? I can put up with the latter, but you're quite welcome to the former.

UP into the 50's, degF. A normal winter day here where I live is 25 at night, 45 in the daytime. A cold winter day would be low teens at night, 32 in the daytime. A warm winter day would be 30 at night, high 50s during the day. Of course, someone from the northern tier of states would consider that climate positively tropical

50 - 55 degrees is plenty warm to be riding a bike. When I was commuting to work, about 20 degrees was my lower limit for starting off in the morning, and that was ONLY if the roads were dry for sure - nobody can ride on ice. Any colder and my hands wouldn't make the trip .... !!

Even Canberra is warmer than that.

We get a couple of days a year where it gets below freezing overnight, and they're enough to start me thinking of moving to far north Queensland.

You lot can't come up here we're full.......... besides, you'd have to
put your clocks back an hour and twenty five years.
I don't miss the frosts and sub zero temps but it does get too hot
for me sometimes, certainly for getting out on the bikes. I'm not
one of those blokes who rides in shorts and tee shirts.

When we were a bit younger, and dafter, we set off one New Year Day to join a club ride an hour away.

Fond memories of racing at snetterton in the sleet,
well they aren't really fond...... That circuit was always cold.
My first meeting over here was in January, 34 degs, just a
bit different.

I used to ride throughout the Winter, when I didn't own a car. Sometimes it took longer to tog up than it did to make the trip.
I'm spoiled now, I draw the line at 50 degrees. I gave my snowmobile suit to Goodwill years ago.

Closer to the coast, so no salted roads here ... yet. Most of my riding takes me north and west so temps drop rapidly as I head inland and gain elevation, it mighty be a balmy 50F and sunny here, but an hour later I'm heading to the hills and temps closer to freezing.

That's my biggest issue really. There are days when it's not bad, maybe high 40s, but I'm on a mountain top and the road home can ice up long before any others do.

Ive had a few chances to ride recently and was able to take advantage of it as well... Today I picked up a E-bike near Woodstock NY in a T-Shirt around noon and by the time I dropped it off at another journalist in Harlem it was so cold that Even in my leather jacket I was shivering waiting for him to come down and get the keys.... I wont winterize anything till the first salt is on the road but that is probably coming soon ..... Looking forward to spring already and hope to get many projects done between now and then.

Glad I don’t have to deal with that any longer. Year round here.

It got to 43.something here today - Celcius

36 degrees cooler here this morning

The last few days have been nice and around 60 degrees. Tomorrow will be the last of that, and I should be able to finish my gearbox rebuild.
After that comes the rain and a big temperature drop. Might see snow on Tuesday morning.
